The Pilato
family roots start in Ischia, a beautiful island paradise in the
Bay of Naples. Long known for its therapeutic waters and thermal
baths, the Greeks and Romans frequented the island to enjoy its
natural beauty. Prior to arriving in America members of the Pilato
family constructed the stonewalls used to hold the roadway en
route to Maronti beach. Michael and Salvatore Pilato's father,
Masto Pasquale Pilato, oversaw the roadway project that involved
the erection of support walls laid out in switchback fashion against
the mountain reaching 287 meters (950 feet) above sea level in
some areas. Because of this project, Maronti became the most famous
beach in Ischia.
In the late
1960's Mike and Sal came to the United States and continued the
family trade. Pilato Bros. Masonry was founded in 1982 and quickly
gained a reputation for being thorough, accommodating, innovative,
and efficient. Specializing in custom stonework involving walls,
patios, veneer, chimneys, pizza ovens and more, their work has
been featured in architectural magazines as well as in client’s
advertising materials.
